A Collaboration as much as a memoir
From Behind the Chair is a work of creative non-fiction, the product of working with Tom Sharpe, who came to me wanting to tell his story in all its ADHD glory. You can read more about the process on our publisher’s website.
About From Behind the Chair
Out now on Auguries and Alchemy, this is a story of Tom Sharpe, his life, and his friendship with Cheryl. Taking place in New Jersey, this real-life adventure illustrates how relationships help us make sense of our lives. While Cheryl battles cancer she teaches Tom all about archetypes, tarot readings and the magic of love while he offers his material and emotional support. Fantastic and heartfelt, the Garden State setting also plays a part, bringing its brash energy into the mix. By the way, that’s not Tom in the picture to the right.

Order the book
Our story is like so many other acts of faith. Tom met me and put his trust in me. I put my trust in the universe.
Working together we brought this book into the world. It sat on a shelf fully written, until one day I found us just the right publisher, one who would understand the metaphysical aspects of the story as well as the practical. We found that at Auguries and Alchemy and in Pamona Sparrow.

What makes the project special?
Tom is not a celebrity.
People think memoirs should be left to the famous, but I believe everyone has a story to tell. Sometimes the story can fill a book, and maybe sometimes it can’t, but that is often decided by the level of honesty a person is willing to bring to the table. Tom was willing to be very honest.
Was anything off-limits?
This book had some sensitivities, and together we found ways to tell those sensitive aspects while retaining the anonymity and dignity of all those mentioned. Since Cheryl is no longer here to correct us if we tell her story incorrectly, we kept that in mind.
Will you be doing a book tour?
We don’t know yet! But if we do, we will be sure to announce it. At the very least we hope to do some readings and signings in these areas where the book is set, and some in Tennessee where our publisher is based.
Should I buy now or wait for the audiobook?
There will be an audiobook version, but please don’t wait to buy a copy! Since this is an independent project it matters greatly if you buy a physical copy. We promise good energy and hopefully a future discount on electronic versions to anyone who buys the print edition.
